DCE's presentation at the Singapore OpenGov Leadership Forum
17 February 2022
Discover VITAL's digital roadmap and key steps in its automation journey, as shared at the Singapore OpenGov Leadership Forum 2022.
Mr Yuen Sai Kuan, Deputy Chief Executive of VITAL, spoke at the Singapore OpenGov Leadership Forum on 17 February 2022. At the event, technology leaders from both public and private sectors such as GovTech, NUS, SingTel and UBS gathered to discuss, deliberate, share and plan for the next phase of digital transformation.
During his presentation, Mr Yuen shared about VITAL’s digital roadmap and automation journey. Here are three key take-aways:
1. Creating an RPA Community and Raising Awareness
RPA implementation should not solely be an IT function. A lot of involvement is required from business users who execute the scripts every day. VITAL has created a community of RPA users through raising awareness of success stories, user training and facilitating access to knowledge and best practices.
2. Tiered Training Approach
VITAL has adopted a tiered training approach for RPA. The majority of VITAL officers are users of RPA who are required to know how to execute an automation script. A smaller group are citizen developers who have basic automation skills and are able to build scripts. On top of these, a small core of skilled RPA developers will perform heavy lifting or the more complex coding.
3. VITAL’s Future RPA Endeavors
VITAL will focus on synergising our RPA efforts with developments in the public sector ICT landscape, as well as the industry in general, including leveraging the ICT capabilities and tools provided by GovTech. VITAL is also looking at harnessing the potential of cloud-based applications, as well as infusing technological advances in AI and machine learning into RPA.
